Gas Fireplace Inserts

Using gas fireplace inserts, you can convert almost any traditional wood-burning fireplace to a gas-fired model. Depending on the type of chimney and structure your home has, you could choose from between direct vent and vent free models.

Simple in concept, these gas fireplace inserts can give you very sophisticated heat control and spreading methods. They control the flow of air around themselves in such a way that the loss to the masonry is minimized. Warm air is forced to spread evenly in your room using blower motors and a radiant heat mechanism.

Many manufacturers will custom build the gas fireplace insert to blend with your room and the existing fireplace. Since the material used is ceramic fiber, the process is fast and the final product looks just like brick!

Gas Fireplace Types

Direct vent fireplaces are very simple and safe. They draw all the air they need from outside the house and vent out directly too. As a result, no un-burnt gases or combustion by products is left inside. You do not also loose any oxygen from inside your home. This allows home sealing to be much more effective and improves the efficiency of the fireplace further.

There are vent free models, which do not vent into the outside air at all. They draw their air from the room itself and vent inside the room too. Since no heat escapes to the outside, they are highly heat efficient, at times greater than 90%. However, there is a question about how long they can be used without depleting the oxygen in the house. If your house is a ‘leaky’ one with drafts and free ventilation, this is an apt model for you.
